selfhelpme is the studio project from guitarist, JD Perry, infusing his blues, folk, and indie influences. JD first step foot in the music industry as the guitarist and co-songwriter of the pop-punk band, Valencia, who released two albums on I-Surrender Records (2006, 2010) and one on Columbia Records (2008). After Valencia, JD found himself in several music projects, which ultimately started the fire to pursue his own songwriting. JD's music came in many forms and names, and it wasn't until 2016 when he settled on selfhelpme and the release of his first album, the road, which also coincided with the debut of his Philly-based indie label, Know Hope Records.
selfhelpme stands for what JD believes in: a higher self that is present and guiding our earthly selves; i.e. "self, help me." This perspective can be heard throughout all of his songs.
Since the road's release, selfhelpme has continued to see a progression of lo-fi acoustic album to full-band, blues-rock with his single release Call Me On My Way found on the Know Hope Records compilation Solidarity in Sound.
selfhelpme is currently in the studio working on its next release.
